Lucas Scott the Unlikely Star

In light of One Tree Hill's return in just nine days, I am going to be doing a daily character analysis. On top of that Thursdays will be new episode recaps for One Tree Hill and Laguna Beach. As the CW starts airing more and more shows, I'll try and recap them as much as possible. If there's something in particular you'd like to see in the reviews, then let me know. I really can't believe the return of One Tree Hill is just nine days away, it feels like just last week I was fighting to stay up and see the third season finale.

It is really funny how television shows always make you think something is going to happen on a show and then about one episode later everything changed. Real life is nowhere near that spontaneous, maybe if it were then it then it would be more interesting. The only exception is Laguna, which obviously has some assistance from MTV to make it seem more interesting than it is.

So today I'll start with One Tree Hill's star character, or at least he was the star until all these other characters lives got so complicated. Lucas Scott began this tangled web. Things were once simple when his best friend was one of his only friends, the hot girls were simply above him, and the basketball team was always shining, while he played in a neighborhood basketball court.

Lucas and Haley

Lucas and Haley when things were "normal".

His Uncle Keith's encouragement and participation helped Lucas to join the Tree Hill Ravens leading to a feud with his half-brother from another mother, Nathan Scott. The beautiful Peyton Sawyer, a broody cheerleader that was also dating Nathan, was another thing standing between them.

Lucas and Nathan had a quarreling challenge in which Lucas beat Nathan to a one on one basketball game and achieved status on the Ravens as well as more interest from Peyton. They flirted and things were looking good, until she flipped out on him and bailed on their fling. Meanwhile, Nathan was trying to charm Lucas' friend Haley into liking him causing more dislike of Nathan by Lucas.

Lucas' mother Karen left to Florence, Italy for cooking school for a short while, leaving Uncle Keith in charge. During Peyton's downtown, her best friend Brooke Davis decided to try and charm Lucas. Her fun and non-complicated character instantly were a hit with Lucas as they drank away alcohol and quickly went on to sleeping together. Peyton tried to fix her mistake of letting Lucas go, but stepped in too late.

She's gonna get on that tonight

Brooke and Lucas.

On a roadtrip to check on Peyton's father who was away at sea during a hurricane, Lucas and Peyton couldn't resist each others chemistry and hooked up. They stopped when they were reminded of the girl that they were betraying through Lucas' necklace that Brooke gave him. They tried to bury what had happened, but they couldn't stop what they felt and Lucas truly wanted to be with Peyton. He planned too meet with both girls and leave Brooke for Peyton.

That night, Lucas and his Uncle Keith were involved in a quarrelling car accident. Lucas' father saved his life by carrying him to the hospital. This same night Lucas' mother Karen returned from Florence and was appalled to find her son in the hospital. After Lucas survived this, he decided to dump Brooke as previously planned and started to date Peyton. It didn't take long for this to head to Brooke's attention and cause feuds between her and them.

Leyton

They encounter each other again.

Lucas discovers that he has a heart disease called HCM in this season and decides to ignore it and continue on, for fearing the end of his basketball playing when this would occur.

Peyton once again backed out on Lucas, and they remained just friends. Lucas was a rampage though, and even made out with a random bar slut, who he later learned was his friend Jake's babies momma. By the end of season one, Lucas was seriously being disliked by Brooke and Peyton and he felt the need to escape, leaving to Charleston with his Uncle Keith after Karen rejected Keith's marriage proposal.

When season two begins, Lucas Scott returns to Tree Hill after his father Dan goes into critical health and Dan tries to manipulate Lucas into being his true son, but Lucas is much smarter than Dan thinks at first. Lucas attempts to foil Dan, but Dan outsmarts him leaving him in failure.

Brooke and Peyton both do not date Lucas in this season though they are friends with him and Lucas realizes towards the end of the season his deep love for Brooke, leaving her with a goodbye kiss as she takes off to California with her parents for the summer.

In Season three, Lucas and Brooke pick back up where they left off and she decides to have a friends with benefit fling with him to avoid the pain of being hurt. This doesn't last very long, before they begin to date. Though there is some pain in between, when Chris Keller sleeps with Brooke. Lucas comes to forgive Brooke and they get back together for most of the season.

Lucas decides to end his basketball days during this time, and is never to play on the team again. This causes deep depression and the following death of Keith Scott before Karen's marriage to Keith causes even more anger and confusion to the teen.

Towards the end of the season, during a life or death situation, Lucas kisses Peyton, and this comes to bite him in the rear in the season finale when Peyton confesses her love to Lucas to her best friend Brooke ending their friendship. Lucas and Brooke dispute over the kiss and by the end of the season Lucas is without his woman, father figure, or his favorite game.
